🔍 This video delves into the history of Brauer Supply Company, founded in 1881 by August G. Brauer. The company initially provided replacement parts for wood-burning and coal stoves and later expanded to repair warm air furnaces and supply insulation products.
🚧 Unfortunately, from the early 1950s through the late 1960s-70s, Brauer used asbestos in its products. This put insulators, HVAC workers, and plumbers at risk of asbestos exposure from the products Brauer supplied.
💰 The damage from supplying workers with asbestos products eventually led Brauer to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2005. In 2012, the Brauer Asbestos Trust was established. According to its annual financial report, about 451 claims were filed with the trust in 2022, and it paid out over $43,550 to claimants. The current payment percentage for claims is 2.6%.
