2025 Mesothelioma Settlement Values

What Are Asbestos Trust Claims Worth in 2025?

If you’ve been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease, you may be eligible for compensation from dozens of asbestos bankruptcy trusts. These trusts were established by companies that manufactured or used asbestos products and later filed for bankruptcy. Their purpose is to compensate victims in a fair and consistent way—based on how those companies historically handled lawsuits.

Each trust assigns a scheduled value to asbestos-related diseases like mesothelioma. That number reflects what the company typically paid to settle lawsuits before bankruptcy. If a company's average mesothelioma settlement in litigation was $300,000 then that will become the baseline scheduled value for the trust.

But because trusts must preserve funds for future claims, they typically do not pay the full scheduled value. Instead, payments are multiplied by a payment percentage that is approved by the federal court that administers each trust. In bankruptcy proceedings, creditors—including injury claimants—rarely receive the full value of what they’re owed. Asbestos trust claims are no different: the payment percentage reflects the reduced share each claimant receives so the trust can fairly compensate both current and future victims.

These percentages are based on actuarial projections that estimate the total number of claims the trust expects to receive over time, along with its available assets and projected investment income. The goal is to ensure the trust remains solvent and equitable for decades to come.

How Actual Payments Are Calculated

To calculate the actual payout from a trust, simply multiply the scheduled value by the payment percentage. For example:

  • The U.S. Gypsum Asbestos Trust set a scheduled value range of $180,000 to $450,000 for mesothelioma claims, based on what the company historically paid to settle lawsuits.

  • The trust’s current payment percentage is 31.7%.

  • That means the actual payout range in 2025 is:

    • $180,000 × 0.317 = $57,060

    • $450,000 × 0.317 = $142,650

So, a mesothelioma claim approved by the U.S. Gypsum trust today would typically result in an actual payout between $57,060 and $142,650, depending on the severity and details of the claim.

The table below shows real-world payout data for mesothelioma claims across active asbestos trusts in 2025. This is the most common and serious asbestos-related disease—and every trust compensates for it—so it offers a consistent baseline for comparison.

Note: This is only a sample. Other diseases like lung cancer, asbestosis, and colorectal cancer are also compensated by many trusts—but not every trust. Values and eligibility requirements for each disease vary widely from trust to trust. 1. Introduction & Background
ACandS, Inc. was once one of the nation’s leading insulation contractors, working extensively in shipyards, refineries, chemical plants, and industrial facilities throughout the mid-20th century. Originally founded as the Armstrong Contracting and Supply Company, ACandS played a major role in constructing and maintaining high-temperature and high-pressure systems that required thermal insulation—a task that often relied heavily on asbestos-based materials.

One of the most hazardous products used by ACandS was sprayed Limpet asbestos, a friable, dust-producing insulation material manufactured by Keasbey & Mattison (K&M). ACandS was not only a licensed distributor of Limpet but also directly installed the product at thousands of industrial and commercial worksites across the United States. This role—both as a distributor and an installer—placed ACandS at the center of widespread occupational and secondary asbestos exposure. Workers who inhaled Limpet dust during installation or cleanup later developed serious health conditions, including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.

Limpet asbestos was manufactured in at least two distinct formulations for the U.S. market—one using crocidolite and the other using amosite. Both crocidolite and amosite are amphibole asbestos minerals, considered significantly more carcinogenic than the more common chrysotile asbestos.

Despite growing evidence linking asbestos exposure to fatal diseases, ACandS continued using asbestos-containing products well into the 1970s and 1980s. As lawsuits mounted in the decades that followed, the company faced a growing wave of legal claims from injured workers and their families. Ultimately, the cost of settling and defending these claims drove ACandS to file for bankruptcy protection in 2002 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Case No. 02-12687.

As part of its Second Plan of Reorganization, ACandS established the ACandS Asbestos Settlement Trust in 2008. The Trust was created under Section 524(g) of the Bankruptcy Code to assume responsibility for the company’s present and future asbestos liabilities. Its purpose is to evaluate and pay valid asbestos-related claims in a fair and consistent manner, while ensuring that funds remain available for future claimants.

Today, the ACandS Asbestos Settlement Trust remains an important compensation source for individuals harmed by the company’s use and installation of asbestos-containing materials like Limpet. Understanding the company’s history, product involvement, and the structure of its Trust is critical for claimants navigating the compensation process.
