Exploring 1895 Rubber Tokens from H.W. John's Manufacturing Company | Asbestos Artifacts

Hi everyone, I'm Asbestos Attorney Justinian Lane, and today I'm excited to share two unique artifacts from the 1800s. These rubber tokens from 1895 come from the H.W. John's Manufacturing Company, a pivotal player in the asbestos industry. H.W. John is often likened to the Henry Ford of asbestos, shaping the industry in ways that still resonate today.

In an era before gift cards, these hard rubber tokens served as store credit. The red token represents roofing products, while the black one is for insulation products. While their exact denominations remain a mystery, these tokens offer a fascinating glimpse into the commercial practices of the 1890s.

If you have any information about the significance of the colors or the usage of these tokens, I'd love to hear from you! For more in-depth content on the early days of the asbestos industry, be sure to check out our YouTube channel.
