Asbestos Trusts: M.H. Detrick Company Asbestos Trust

In this episode of AC.Law's "Asbestos Trusts" series, we delve into the history of M.H. Detrick Company, a refractory manufacturer and supplier incorporated in Illinois in 1936. Join us as we explore the company's role in providing insulating materials for industrial settings, including products like asbestos rope, adhesives, insulation, firebrick, and more.

Detrick's product line also featured asbestos-cement, such as Pyroscat Fire Proofing Cement and Super 711 Insulating Cement, with a total of over 25 asbestos-containing products. Notably, some of these products were supplied to the U.S. military, potentially exposing both civilians and military veterans to asbestos.

The video highlights the occupational risks faced by workers like boilermakers, insulators, shipbuilders, and other industrial employees who might have been exposed to asbestos from Detrick's products. The company reportedly used asbestos in its offerings for nearly three decades, spanning the 1930s to the early 1960s.

Due to its involvement in numerous asbestos injury lawsuits, M.H. Detrick Company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the Northern District of Illinois in 1998. Consequently, the M.H. Detrick Company Asbestos Trust was established in 2002 under the Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization.

Initially funded with approximately $3 million, the trust provided compensation for around 36,780 claims before it ceased accepting new claims in 2011. However, it continues to file annual financial reports, leaving the possibility of reopening in the future.

We’ve helped thousands of people receive the compensation they deserve for their asbestos injuries. Let us help you. You can contact asbestos attorney Justinian C. Lane at Asbestos Claims Law via his website at http://www.AsbestosClaims.law.
