๐ This video explores the history of the Synkoloid Company, founded in 1894, and its subsequent acquisition by the Artra Group, Inc. in 1975. Synkoloid was a manufacturer of paint, varnishes, and wood finishing products, many of which contained asbestos starting around 1949.
๐ญ Construction and demolition workers, painters, factory workers, and shipyard workers were among those who would have routinely encountered and risked being exposed to, Synkoloid asbestos products. The company reportedly stopped using asbestos by the mid-1970s, but at least three products manufactured under Artra Group still contained asbestos until around 1981.
๐ฐ Struggling to keep up with litigation, Artra Group filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2002. The ARTRA Asbestos Trust was established and opened in 2007. According to the most recent annual financial report, roughly $380,000 was paid out to claimants in 2022.
